The video shows a man holding an umbrella attempting to stop the scooter rider.

However, a split-second later, the bully on the little vehicle punches out, smashing the have-a-go hero in the face.

As the passer-by reels backwards and swings out with his umbrella, the camera pans back – and captures an elderly lady lying face-down on the ground at a pedestrian crossing.

Members of the public can be seen rushing to help her.

The rider is captured on film getting off his scooter and advancing threateningly towards the man who tried to stop him.

He then hits out again – sending the man stumbling backwards and hitting a brick wall.

Without looking back, the rider mounts the scooter and makes off.

The frightening incident unfolded shortly before 5pm today.

Cops say they’re aware of the footage.

However, no victims have come forward yet to report a crime.

It’s understood the woman injured as she attempted to cross the road was in her 60s.

CHAOS IN THE STREET

A witness told the Standard: “The guy on the scooter knocked the lady down as she walked on a pedestrian crossing.

“She was in shock and couldn’t speak.

“She was bleeding from the mouth and had tarmac rush on her face.”

A Met Police spokesman said: “We are aware of the video and are assessing its contents.

“We ask anyone who has been a victim or anyone with information to call police on 101 ref 6121/29oct or tweet @MetCC.”

POLICE PROBE

The rising popularity of e-scooters has sparked concerns about safety after a series of serious and fatal accidents.

A three-year-old girl suffered life-changing injuries after she was hit by one in London.

The scooters themselves are legal – although it’s illegal to use them in public unless it’s been rented as part of a recognised scheme.

They are classed as powered transporters, which means they’re covered by the same laws that govern the use of cars and other motor vehicles.

I’s illegal to ride them on pavements, footpaths, cycle lanes and in pedestrianised zones.

The camera then pans back around - capturing the moment the scooter thug punches the man with an umbrella for a second time, knocking him backwards into a brick wall
